Founded in 1899 as the Hull Brothers Umbrella Manufacturing Company in Norwalk, Ohio, Haas-Jordan’s legacy began with a simple vision: build better umbrellas. Just a few years later, the company moved to Toledo, where it quickly grew into one of America’s top ten umbrella manufacturers—no small feat at a time when more than 250 companies competed in the space.
What set them apart? Innovation. Hull Brothers held a patented design that allowed customers to easily switch out ferrules and handles—a revolutionary level of customization for its time.
In 1928, a driven young salesman named Cloyd Haas, who had joined the company at just 14, purchased a stake and helped lead the company into a new era. Soon after, it became Hull Brothers & Haas Umbrella Company. Haas had an eye for opportunity, and in 1932 he partnered with William H. Jordan, a New York importer of high-end umbrella components. Together, they formed Haas-Jordan—a brand built on old-world quality and modern American ingenuity.
When World War II forced over 80% of U.S. umbrella companies to close due to steel shortages, Haas-Jordan stood strong. Thanks to Jordan’s overseas connections and Haas’s leadership, the company pivoted to manufacturing military garments while continuing to support the umbrella industry. The war didn’t weaken Haas-Jordan—it made them stronger.
In 1942, Haas-Jordan created the first American-style golf umbrella, and in 1959, they became the first to print logos on umbrellas using silk-screen technology—setting the standard for what umbrellas could be: both functional and expressive.
The brand’s connection to the game of golf deepened when legend Byron Nelson became its first ambassador, even bringing Haas-Jordan products on sales visits between tournament wins. Today, Haas-Jordan is still the only umbrella officially licensed by the PGA of America.
Four generations later, Director of Golf Sales Mike Waltz proudly carries the torch. From classic silhouettes to modern printing capabilities, Haas-Jordan continues to blend function and design into every product. As Waltz says:

In June of 2020, Haas-Jordan became the newest member of Dynamic Brands, the parent company for a portfolio of premium sport brands.
